Paper Title: Analysis on Power Quality Due to Large-scale Wind Power Integrating into Power Network

Abstract of the paper

With the continued expansion of the scale of wind power generation, the power quality problems due to grid connected wind farms are concerned widely. The voltage fluctuation and flicker and harmonics are main aspects of power quality problems. The fluctuation of wind farm output and grid voltage due to the random fluctuation of wind speed and inherent characteristics of wind turbines may cause flicker severity. It is significant to investigate the impact of power quality on load and operation of power system. Firstly, the reason causing the power quality problems is analyzed. Secondly, taking a real power system with several wind farms for an example, the flicker severity and harmonics due to wind farm are calculated based on the IEC and China national standards, respectively. Then, the flicker severity and harmonic current emission under continuous operation are calculated. The results show that the flicker severity and harmonic current emission caused by grid-connected wind farms are within the permitted range.
