Certification and quality assurance for wind turbines – new
solutions of the TÜV Nord Group and its subsidiaries in India
Abstracts:
Manufacturers of wind turbines need to certify their products to achieve
access to the markets. The assessment and certification of wind
turbines are required as long as wind turbines are produced and brought
to market. The assessment and certification of wind turbines are common
practise worldwide. While the official requirements of the authorities
of several countries often differ, the advantages of certification are
often the same for the manufacturers, investors and insurances. These
are in particular the reduction of risks as well as the increase of
safety and reliability.
Although different certification-schemes are being applied worldwide,
the IEC-certification-scheme was established in the wind industry to a
large extent. Suitably supplemented with missing or not sufficiently
treated technical details, this scheme offers a comprehensive basis for
the assessment and certification of wind turbines.
A certification process comprises different modules, which differ in
extent and depth of evaluation. Therefore for each wind turbine type or
wind farm project the most suitable certification degree need to be
defined individually.
TÜV NORD enjoys a broad range of experience in consulting and optimizing
of suitable certification extent as well as in the assessment and
certification of the wind turbines itself. On the basis of these
experiences an overview of the different certification modules shall be
given and a possible way to the certification of own wind turbines and
wind farm projects will be shown.
Additionally to the broad experience in certification, TÜV NORD deploys
local personnel for time- and labour-intensive certification modules
like surveillance during production, transport and erection as well as
commissioning and periodic inspections. In India these services are
carried out by special trained personnel of TÜV NORD INDIA. This close
co-operation offers advantages for all parties involved.
